The Board of Water Supply (BWS) is working on a vital water main replacement project along Kamehameha Highway to replace an aging 8-inch water main between Pupukea Road and Kahae Road.  The main being replaced was originally installed in 1959.  In some areas, the main will be upgraded to a 16-inch main to increase system capacity for North Shore residents.  The purpose of this project is to ensure continued access to a safe and dependable water supply for the North Shore community now and into the future.  We understand that Kamehameha Highway is the sole artery for the North Shore community, so we have created this web page to provide project and traffic updates.

PROJECT AND TRAFFIC UPDATES

Please be advised of the following modifications and lane closures, observe all construction traffic signs, traffic signals, expect delays, and drive with caution.

Kamehameha Highway WSI Part IV, Sunset Beach (Pupukea Road to Kahae Road)

• Working area:
• On Kamehameha Highway between Pupukea Road and Puula Road.
• Lane Closures:
• The makai lane of Kamehameha Highway will be closed between the Pupukea Road intersection and Puula Road.
• Contraflow:
• When the contractor is working on Kamehameha Highway, traffic will be contraflowed.
• One special duty police officer is posted at each end of the lane closure to help direct traffic flow.
• Type of work:  Excavation and installation of the new 16-inch waterline on Kamehameha Highway from Pupukea Road intersection and Puula Road intersection towards Sunset beach. 
• Working Hours:  Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Background Information

• Installing 8 and 16-inch water mains on Kamehameha Highway from Pupukea Road and Kahae Road.
• Started in March 2010.
• Anticipated completion of the project is February 2011, pending weather and any other unforeseen circumstances.
