Koolau Loa Watershed Management Plan
The Koolau Loa District consists of a 58 square-mile area on the windward side of the Koolau Mountains from Kaaawa to Kawela. It is one of the eight district Watershed Management Plans that together will constitute the "Oahu Watershed Management Plan."
Where Does Koolau Loa Water Come From?
Underground aquifers - mostly for drinking water and some crop irrigation.
Streams - mostly for crop irrigation.
Recycled water - for irrigation.
Koolau Loa receives 40 to 275 inches of rainfall per year, some of the highest rainfall on Oahu. Movement of a drop of water from the top of the Koolau Mountains to the aquifer below could take 25 years.
